How We Vet and Screen Every Candidate

The standard we hold, the steps behind it, and why nothing less belongs in your home.

Someone who works in your home, with your children and among your most private affairs, should be vetted to a standard far above the ordinary. That conviction shapes our entire process, and we do not cut corners in it.

It begins before any background check. A prospective candidate first submits a resume, a personal statement, and a recent photograph, which a Placement Coordinator reviews against our minimum requirements: a minimum of five years of professional experience (we make no entry-level placements), excellent employer and character references, a clean criminal history, a driving record free of alcohol-related and moving violations, the legal right to work, and fluent English, among others. Only candidates who meet or exceed that bar go further, completing a detailed application and a thorough scheduled interview with a coordinator before screening begins in earnest.

The background screening itself is deliberately layered, because no single check is sufficient on its own. Working with a dedicated screening partner, we conduct a multi-jurisdictional national criminal search, which includes fifty-state sex-offender and global watchlist screening and a Social Security number trace that surfaces prior names and addresses; a federal criminal search across all ninety-four U.S. district courts, where serious federal offenses appear that county records miss; and county-level criminal searches everywhere a candidate has lived. We pull motor vehicle records, verify past employment and work history, and speak with references, no fewer than three professional and three personal, about reliability, character, and the quality of someone's work. On request, we also verify education and degrees and arrange drug testing through national laboratories.

We believe in transparency throughout. You receive the candidate's full report in your closing package, and because candidates move through these stages on a rolling basis, your coordinator can tell you precisely where each person stands, so you may begin meeting qualified candidates while final due diligence completes. If you have already found someone through your own resources and simply want the assurance, we will run this same comprehensive screening on your chosen candidate for a set fee.

This is demanding by design. It is why fewer than 1 in 10 applicants is ever accepted onto our registry, and it is a large part of why the people we place tend to stay for years. Trust is the entire job, and trust is not assumed here. It is verified. It is what families come to Nannies + more…® for.
